Vulnerable we are, like an infant.
We need each other's care
or we will
suffer.

It's a balmy day here in St. Augustine,
and they tell me it's Christmas Eve!
A light rain created the scent of spring through the window
and yet...
there are lights everywhere and places to go and presents to wrap
and friends to cheer...
so it must be Christmas!
Have a Very Merry,
Everyone!
And try to be nice!

No, you first.
No,
you first.
The story of Adam and Eve,
where Eve is held responsible for bringing knowledge to the first man.
And that was bad because?
Uh, let me get back to you on that one.
In the Garden of Eden at LaDew Gardens in Maryland and it really is an Eden when the apple trees are blooming at the same time as the azaleas and everything is white and glowing and sweet.

Snowing at night and sticking to everything,
the branches of the trees, the trunks,
the street lights.
One of the most beautiful nights of my life,
keeping me cool tonight!
The Valentine's snow storm, Baltimore, 2014. What you can't see are the marvelous hardwood trees in the background, all covered in snow.

Are there angels among us?
This world seems to be divided
between the warring
and the loving.
Are we approaching a tipping point,
weary of war,
and resolved to truly love our neighbors,
even if they are very different from us?
If you think that living a compassionate,
kind life,
isn't making a difference-
think again.
And thank you!

How much can we trust each other?
You and me,
and the stranger who made these wonderful lattés?
More than we give ourselves credit for,
I think.
How many bridges do you go over without worrying whether or not they will support you and your car?
How many roads travelled, with sign posts and traffic signals,
that a stranger has placed there for your safety?
Perhaps it is easier to take some things for granted and worry about others,
but maybe we need to trust the people we know a little more,
or at least as much as we trust the unknown, invisible people who support our world!
The latté was wonderful,
and I didn't die!

What if you really really loved yourself and
you stopped beating yourself up?
Think how (and don't take this the wrong way),
everyone around you would be much happier?!
What if lollygagging at least half of the time
is what it's all about?
Could you love yourself better?
The thing is,
you are beautiful, wonderful and lovely,
just as you are today.
Tomorrow too.

Water is the architect of much of our world.
Beaches are rearranged daily by oceans and tides.
Snow is rained upon, melts, and refreezes in amazingly similar ways.
And this wonderful creature spends all of her time in water
and the lines along her body are
a lot like the sandy beach above.

This azalea looks so happy!!!
No matter where you prune an azalea,
it will bloom there, at the end of the stem.
Would that we were all so willing to thrive,
no matter the scrapes and cuts that come our way.
Perhaps we are...
after all,
humans are considered to be one of the most adaptable species on the planet.

If you get into a funk (and we all do from time to time),
can you approach your confusion with love?
Can you stop worrying about the particulars,
especially with people, anyone, and worry more about loving them?
Not in a way that you give love away,
but more that you are sharing your love,
the love that is always inside of you?
Flowers aren't always beautiful,
but they always share,
without diminishing what they truly are,
without denying that they haven't bloomed yet or are past their prime,
or need to be underground for a time,
they are always true.
You don't have to be "this" person,
or "that" person to anyone,
just be your loving self,
be true.

If you go away,
and you wish for a winter wonderland,
if only for the few days that you are away,
and it HAPPENS(!),
timed perfectly for your safe arrival.
Well,
the best response is...
Thank You!
Beautiful!
Wonderful!
Thank You!
Baltimore's 14 inches of wonderful! (At least for this travelling Floridian!)

According to Webster:
woof: the threads interlacing at right angles
with the warp in a woven fabric.
When we are young, we think we should chase sadness away,
banish it as though it were something dirty and undesirable,
only to have it pop up again and again and again.
As we age, we come to realize that sorrows and joys are the fabric of life -
intertwined.
When one is prevelant, the other is close by - always.
Always.
Like the rose
and her thorns.

Now here's a gruesome thought...
(bear with me)
Since we - each and every one of us -
(except those magicians among us)
are going to die one day,
then we really are the
living dead.
Rather than being a depressing thought,
this idea has the potential to liberate us
from the fear of living...
of really being alive.
After all, it will too soon be over and then what?
Ok, so the idea is a little rough around the edges...
how to smooth it out?
Perhaps with a question...
What are you waiting for?
There, that's better.
Happy Halloween!
