Walking the beach the other day with my little point and shoot digital elph,
that no longer zooms in,
there is a pod of dolphins feeding right in front of me.
I point,
hoping to catch a glistening fin and what do I see?
A dolphin is airborne!
I shoot!
And I think I am airborne, I am so excited!
Here it is, a little closer...
And a little closer still...
zoom zoom zoom...
Probably a Bottle Nose Dolphin, and maybe some fish jumping at St. Augustine Beach.
The welcoming arms of the live oak trees beckon.
Will you come?
Busy ocean today, after the rain storm.
The wind blowing one way and the tide the other.
Like thinking one thing and feeling another.
The tide always wins out.

When we have long departed from this beautiful blue/green planet,
will we one day long for a glimpse of a new leaf in springtime,
missing the seasons and colors of Earth?
Perhaps that depends on the treasures that we find on the other side.
For now, a new green leaf in springtime is treasure enough.
Spring begins in St. Augustine as the trees are leafing out.
Have you done something impossible recently?
You must have, because this was in the sky,
just the other night.
The sky does not lie.
If this chunk of sand and rock and cement were frozen in time
would future archeologists, 10,000 years from now,
be captivated by it?
There is evidence of a critter with paws shaped like a human hand,
a possible humanoid footprint, with some kind of covering on the foot,
and the wear and tear of the tide coming and going -
all signs of vibrant life at the water's edge.
Isn't that person standing in front of you just as intriguing?
Sometimes!

Is there another chair?
The title is a shard of a poem lodged in my memory, possibly by Baudelaire.
When I saw an RV on the road towing a boat,
and not a car or a motorcycle,
I was impressed.
Then I spied this at a rest stop -
Some people know how to dream BIG
and live simply.
Think of the possibilities!
These two pelicans, flying and diving together in the shallow waters of Tampa Bay,
in time to their own music,
reminded me of the two humpback whales dining together off Cape Cod,
and the pilot whales, dancing in perfect harmony.
Occasionally humans can, without a word, step together harmoniously to shared music.
It's great fun when it happens,
and like the dance instructor said,
"Don't worry if you misstep, it's part of the fun and just like life.
Make it part of the dance until you can find the rhythm again!"
(Sorry, no photos of the humans dancing, as they are very difficult to photograph in the wild!)
Words escape me,
like the leaves floating on this creek,
away and away,
but the feelings are there,
the feelings are there...

The role that this block and tackle plays in controlling the nets on this work boat
looks confusing.
Close up it appears to be dysfunctional, as though it might jam,
if pressed into service.
And then there's the frayed end
that turns out to be the bottom of a splice that is stronger than the rope itself.
Like our connection to each other,
it's complicated,
but it works.
Funny how different colored shutters
and a couple of pink chairs and flamingos can brighten your day.
Here's a beach house that shares its joy on the outside,
for anyone who walks by on their way to the beach to enjoy.
Someone has found paradise and made it their own!

As I have always said,
you have to break a few eggs in order to make an omelette.
Like life,
one thing leads to another.
This is one of the guardians outside the Paper Moon Diner in Baltimore.
She watches over a fun staff and good food and
an eccentric collection of "stuff,"
as you can see by the hundred or so Pez dispensers in the window behind her.
It's amazing what a little imagination can do for an old diner!
(The old diner being the restaurant, not the person writing this!)
It's great fun enjoying a meal there!
