If life is "but a dream,"

then the paradox is

that the only way to realize this is to

wake up!

Unexpected

 

 

Sometimes, when your plans don't work out the way that you had hoped,

if you follow your nose to the beach,

you might be treated to some fabulous rides on your boogie board,

and an unexpected sunset.

 

Not too shabby for another day on earth.

Have you ever had a day where one moment was so very important

that your entire future rested upon it?

 

A day outside of space and time,

when you must keep your appointment with the gods

who decide your fate?

 

Mythical moments, like the shard of a rainbow,

and all is well, if at the end of the day

you feel that the gods have smiled on you?

Who Are We?

 

 

How many masks do we shed in a lifetime?

Each one seems to be the "real" one, the "last" one.

until it is peeled away to reveal another,

and another,

and

another.

 

Who are we?

Where do we come from?

Where are we going?

 

How many more to come?

I once saw a cormorant catch a fish that was so large it almost sank her.

 

Somehow she managed to swallow it,

and was very still and low in the water for a long long time.

 

She didn't have to eat another thing for a week!

Lately, the waves have been rolling in perfect tubes at St. Augustine Beach.

It's a surfer's dream.

 

The Run Away Shadow

 

 

My shadow tried to get away yesterday,

but I put my hands on my head and saved the day.

 

I mean what would I do without my shadow?

This Aster

 

 

Once upon a time there was a lovely aster.

This aster was enjoying the last light of an autumn evening in Baltimore,

when suddenly it was surrounded by butterflies.

They were the most unusual butterflies that this aster had ever seen,

and quite frankly they took her breath away!

Nostalgia

 

 

The look, smell, and sound of this beach brings back memories of my childhood.

It is a mere inlet away from St. Augustine Beach,

yet the sand and the shape and the voice - so different- are worlds away.

 

A lifetime away...

Blue Sky Days

 

 

Blue skies and gentle breezes.

It's still summer here, but not quite as hot,

and there's a scent in the air of cooler nights to come.

Bridge To Somewhere

 

 

Just a short bridge across the river.

Easy going from shore to shore.

Without it, how to cross?

Swim? Boat? Pelican?

 

Are you a bridge?

Have you helped a friend get from here to there across troubled waters?

Has someone been there for you?

 

Perhaps everyone is a bridge, at one time or another,

sometimes without even realizing it.

 

Bridges are engineering marvels.

Some are plain, some ornate and others simply elegant.

 

We depend on them more than we realize.

Ever have trouble focusing on the most important thing?

So many distractions and excuses.

 

Sooner or later you'll put everything else aside and get to it.

Lavender Surprise

 

 

In the hammock, St. Augustine Beach's version of sand dunes,

these flowers were a lavender surprise.

 

There they were, along with the yellow daisies and the blanket flowers.

 

By evening they were gone.
